Matthew - Chapter 2: The Visit of the Magi
Scripture Text
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, 'Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.'
Primary Commentary
The visit of the Magi demonstrates that Jesus came not only for the Jewish people but for all nations. Their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh symbolically represent Jesus' kingship, deity, and future suffering. Herod's reaction foreshadows the rejection Jesus would face.
